Avia BH-11

The Avia BH-11 was another aircraft from the Avia BH-9 family, developed by Pavel Beneš and Miroslav Hajn. Its maiden flight took place on June 17, 1924.

Military Service and Roles

Fifteen of these aircraft were supplied to the Czechoslovak Air Force under the designation B.11. The aircraft served various roles, including as a trainer (Bš-11), liaison aircraft (Bk-11), and reconnaissance platform.

Civilian and Sporting Versions

In 1929, a civilian sporting version, the BH-11B Antelope, was introduced. This model was equipped with an 85 hp Walter Vega radial piston engine and was slightly larger and heavier than the original BH-11.

Later versions included the BH-11C, which featured the same engine as the BH-11 but with a larger wingspan, and the racing BH-11E. In 1925, the BH-11E won the most famous race of its time, the Coppa d’Italia.

Historical Preservation

Today, the BH-11 and BH-11C models are displayed at the Aviation Museum in Prague, Czech Republic.
