C-212-400MP Patrullero

The C-212-400MP Patrullero is a multi-purpose patrol aircraft developed by the Spanish firm CASA. This model is based on the C-212 Aviocar transport aircraft and represents the latest modification of the Aviocar series. The prototype made its first flight in 1997, marking a new era for maritime surveillance missions.

Designed for patrolling maritime zones, the C-212-400MP can operate for 8 hours or cover a range of up to 1000 nautical miles. Serial production began in 1998, incorporating advanced technology for detection and tracking. The patrol version is equipped with a 360-degree search radar, television and infrared surveillance cameras, and a satellite data transmission system.

Armament and Avionics Capabilities

The aircraft can carry launchers for 68mm or 70mm unguided rockets, as well as pods with machine guns. Furthermore, it can be equipped with two light torpedoes such as the Stingray, Mk.46, or A 244/S, giving it both defensive and offensive capabilities. The cockpit is outfitted with Electronic Flight Instruments (EFIS) featuring CRT displays and an Integrated Engine Data System (IEDS) with two color LCD screens, enhancing situational awareness and control.

In its transport version, the C-212-400MP offers significant versatility. It can carry up to 2950 kilograms of cargo, 25 paratroopers, or 12 stretchers with wounded and four attendants. Alternatively, it can transport two containers (2.24×1.37m), making it ideal for various logistical and humanitarian missions.

Global Distribution and Operators

By 2002, ten of these aircraft had been delivered to various international operators. Three units were allocated to the Venezuelan Navy, and two to the Suriname Air Force. The Dominican Republic Air Force received two aircraft in their transport modification, while the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries acquired three units for its own operations.
