CA-100 Century Jet

The CA-100 Century Jet is an administrative aircraft developed by the American firm Century Aerospace Corporation. Its development began in 1993 as the single-engine Paragon Spirit. In 1998, Century Aerospace launched the new CA-100 into production. The first prototype made its maiden flight in 2001, with initial deliveries and certification expected by the end of 2003.

Economic and Operational Features

According to company statements, Century Aerospace has already accepted orders for 50 CA-100s, each valued at $2.7 million. The CA-100 is projected to have direct operating costs of $335 per hour. This cost per mile is 19% less than single-engine jets, 48% less than twin-engine jets, and 81% less than twin-engine turboprops.

The CA-100 is priced $1 million cheaper than the closest existing twin-engine jet. However, its price is approximately the same as other twin-engine turboprop aircraft.

Collaborations and Components

The Taiwan General Aviation Consortium is Century Aerospace’s main partner in the production of the CA-100 Century Jet. Together with the Taiwanese firm AIDC, they provide financing and assistance in the aircraft’s development and component supply. Tactair was selected by Century Aerospace to provide the hydraulics and brake system for the CA-100.

This control system includes the landing gear, brake, and reverse switch. Additionally, it supplies the brake head actuator, hydraulic system reservoir, and accumulator. The system also features a nose landing gear vibration damper, main brake cylinders, and a parking brake actuator.

Design and Cabin Comfort

Century Aerospace Corporation and SGL Carbon Composites/Hitco jointly developed the composite fuselage. The fuselage consists of two separately manufactured sections that will be assembled together during the aircraft’s construction. The aircraft’s passenger cabin is designed to transport five passengers in enhanced comfort conditions, complete with a bar and a lavatory.
