The CBU-87 Combined Effects Munition (CEM) is a universal cluster bomb designed for engaging area targets. The main component of the bomb is a single-use SW-65 Tactical Munitions Dispenser (TMD) with an FZU-39 proximity fuze.

Key Components

The CBU-87 utilizes 202 small-caliber Combined Effects Bomb (CEB) submunitions as its destructive elements, designed to engage enemy personnel, as well as unfortified and lightly armored targets. Upon detonation, each BLU-97 produces up to 300 fragments.

Area of Impact

The total area of effect for the CBU-87 cluster bomb is approximately 80,000 square meters (a 200 by 400-meter zone).
