Cessna 208B Grand Caravan

The Model 208A Cargomaster achieved such success that FedEx commissioned the Model 208B Super Cargomaster. This new variant featured a fuselage extended by 1.22 meters and a PT6A-114A turboprop engine producing 675 horsepower. Its payload capacity was significantly increased to 1587 kg.

The Model 208B performed its first flight on March 3, 1986, with deliveries commencing in the same year. By 2009, the model remained in serial production, now equipped with the Garmin G1000 avionics suite, based on three displays.

Enhanced Safety and Features

A crucial upgrade for the Model 208B included a standard anti-icing system. This feature was implemented after a series of incidents related to icing on Caravan aircraft, significantly enhancing operational safety. The continued evolution ensured the aircraft’s reliability and adaptability.

The Birth of the Grand Caravan

Building upon the Super Cargomaster, Cessna developed the Model 208B Grand Caravan. This variant is powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-114A turboprop engine, delivering 675 equivalent shaft horsepower. The Grand Caravan is an extended version, distinguished by its windows and a quickly convertible cabin.

This versatile cabin design allows it to accommodate up to 14 passengers or be reconfigured for cargo transport. The aircraft’s maiden flight occurred in 1990, and after successfully passing certification in early 1991, serial production commenced. These aircraft also later received Garmin avionics.
