Karlis Bungss
Karlis Bungss was born on May 1, 1903, in Riga. In October 1919, he volunteered for the Latvian army. After his discharge in January 1920, he became a university student.
In 1921, Bungss was awarded the Order of Lacplesis for his service in the War of Independence.
Aviation Career Begins
Karlis Bungss volunteered for aviation service in February 1927, though he did not qualify as a pilot until January 1932. With the Soviet annexation, he served in the 24th Territorial Corps.
In June 1941, upon learning of the war with Germany, he sought refuge in the forest.
Service During World War II
During the German occupation, Bungss served as an instructor at the Liepaja-Grobina flight school. His life tragically ended in combat on August 28, 1945, on the Western Front.
