Alceo Bomber

Alceo Bomber

In 1915, Italian engineer Enea Bossi proposed to the Regia Marina the construction of a bomber, based on a project by engineer Alceo. This aircraft was intended to replace the unsuccessful Bossi America as a long-range bomber for the fleet.

Design and Powerplant

Initially, it was planned as a seaplane, but the floats were eventually replaced with conventional wheeled landing gear. The chosen powerplant was an Isotta Fraschini V.4 piston engine with 500 hp.

Testing and Cancellation

During testing, the bomber crashed, attributed to insufficient engine power. This led to the cancellation of the order. In the same year, Bossi developed a project for a large four-engine bomber for naval aviation, but the military showed no interest in this project.
