Barnwell BSW.1

In the late 1930s, British engineer F.S. Barnwell, who had previously worked at the Bristol company and participated in the creation of the famous Bulldog and Blenheim, developed his own project named Barnwell BSW.1, derived from Barnwell Scott Whitchutch.

Project Genesis

The sole example of the aircraft, registered G-AFID, was built in 1938. This single-seat, cantilever low-wing monoplane was equipped with a 28 hp Scott Squirrel engine and a two-bladed propeller.

Tragic End

During a test flight, the BSW.1 suffered a catastrophic accident in which its designer, F.S. Barnwell, was killed. This tragic event marked the end of a promising personal endeavor.
