Blume Bl.502 Light Aircraft

Concept and Development

Professor Walter Blume, former chief designer of “Arado Flugzeugwerke GmbH”, began work in the mid-1950s on a project for a four-seater light all-metal monoplane. The prototype, the Blume Bl.500, was built by “Focke-Wulf” and made its first flight on March 14, 1957.

Technical Specifications

This aircraft was a cantilever low-wing monoplane, featuring a traditional tail unit and retractable tricycle landing gear. Its design emphasized efficiency and robustness for a light aircraft, aiming for optimal performance and ease of operation.

Production Variants

Two production variants emerged. The Bl.502, which shared the single Avco Lycoming O-320-A engine configuration with the prototype. The Bl.503, conversely, incorporated an upgraded Avco Lycoming O-360-A1A engine, delivering 180 hp (134 kW).
