Origins and Design

The Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) is an enhanced comfort passenger aircraft, developed by the American firm Boeing. Its design is based on the medium-haul passenger aircraft Boeing Next-Generation 737-700.

Key modifications to the aircraft include an internal redesign of the passenger cabin, the installation of reinforced wings and landing gear from the larger and heavier Boeing 737-800, and the addition of new PATS fuel tanks.

Launch and Early Sales

The BBJ was first introduced by Boeing and General Electric on July 2, 1996. Shortly thereafter, on October 21 of the same year, the first production contract was signed. Its maiden flight occurred on September 4, 1998, at Renton Municipal Airport.

By the end of 2000, Boeing had already secured approximately 50 contracts for the manufacture of this luxury aircraft.

Pricing Details

The base cost for a Boeing Business Jet is 33.75 million dollars. To this initial price, an additional 7 to 12 million dollars are added, depending on the customization and configuration of the passenger cabin.
