Bu 133 Jungmeister
Orders for the Bu 131 Jungmann were so numerous that the Johannisthal factory soon couldn’t keep up with demand. A new plant was built in Rangsdorf, and the Bucker company began designing a single-seat trainer aircraft based on the successful Bu 131.
Innovation and Superior Performance
The Bu 133 Jungmeister inherited its design and layout from its predecessor but featured smaller dimensions and a 135 hp Hirth HM 6 engine. This reduction in size, combined with an increase in engine power, positively affected the aircraft’s flight characteristics. Based on test results, the machine was recommended for serial production as an advanced pilot training aircraft and for initial air combat training.
Variants and International Production
The first production variant was designated Bu 133A. The exact number of aircraft built for the Luftwaffe is unknown. Approximately 50 units were assembled by Dornier-Werke in Switzerland for the Swiss Air Force, and roughly the same number by CASA in Spain for the Spanish Air Force.
Two other modifications of the aircraft were also produced: the Bu 133B Jungmeister, which designated license-built aircraft with 160 hp (119 kW) Hirth HM 506 engines, and the Bu 133C Jungmeister, the most common production variant, featuring a Siemens Sh 14A-4 radial engine. Additionally, a model with an Argus As.8 engine existed.
