Overview of the C-22
The C-22 is a tactical military transport aircraft developed by the American firm Boeing. It was based on the civilian airliner Boeing Model 727-100. Serial production of the aircraft began in 1964, marking its entry into service.
Operational Deployment
This versatile aircraft is utilized by the Air National Guard for various transport missions. Furthermore, it serves as a crucial command aircraft for the United States Southern Command, facilitating operational control and coordination.
Key Modifications
The C-22 features distinct modifications tailored to its roles. An initial variant designed for the U.S. Southern Command can accommodate 60 passengers. A separate modification, intended for the Air National Guard, has an expanded capacity for 89 passengers, reflecting different mission requirements.
