Caudron C.110: Design and Purpose

In 1928, the Caudron company released the C.110 light multipurpose aircraft, which was a further development of the successful C.109. This new aircraft could be used for both sport flying and initial training in aeroclubs.

Technical Specifications and Maiden Flight

The C.110 was a three-seater high-wing monoplane with a parasol-type wing, equipped with a five-cylinder Salmson 5Ac radial engine producing 60 hp. The center section of the wing rested on four short vertical struts installed around the front pilot’s cockpit, while its outer panels were attached to the lower fuselage longerons by a pair of duralumin braces on each side.

The C.110 prototype made its first flight in the summer of 1928. On September 1 of the same year, pilot Raymond Delmotte, flying a C.110, became a bronze medalist in the Ralley d’Auvergne race.

The C.110 Series and its Variants

Following the two C.110 modification aircraft, Caudron released single units of the C.112, C.113, C.114, C.116, and C.117 aircraft between 1928 and 1929. These were similar two-seater high-wing monoplanes, differing primarily in their powerplants. For instance, the C.113 and C.114 were equipped with a 60 hp six-cylinder Anzani 6A-3 engine.
