Development and Unique Features

The Cessna 190 is a light, multi-purpose aircraft developed by the American firm Cessna Aircraft Co. The Cessna Model 190 and Model 195 are notable as the only post-war light single-engine Cessna aircraft to feature a radial engine, distinguishing them from other designs of the era. This unique choice contributed to their distinctive operational characteristics.

Production and Specifications

Serial production of the Model 190 took place between 1947 and 1954. During this period, 233 Model 190 aircraft were built, each powered by a Continental R-670-23 engine generating 240 horsepower. This engine provided reliable performance for its intended multi-purpose role.

Later Model Innovations

Models produced in 1953 and 1954 introduced several characteristic enhancements. These included engines enclosed by fairings and a small propeller spinner for improved aerodynamics. Additionally, these later versions featured a 50% increase in flap area on the lower surfaces of the high-mounted wings, which were notably designed without struts. For the first time, main landing gear struts made of spring steel were incorporated, enhancing durability and performance.
