The single-engine cantilever low-wing aircraft, Cessna Model 400 Corvalis, originally known as Columbia 400, was developed and initially built by “Columbia Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation,” formerly “Lancair Company.” This entity was acquired by “Cessna” in November 2007. These aircraft, constructed from composite materials, featured a fixed tricycle landing gear with cantilever struts and faired wheels.

Origins and Evolution

The base variant, the Lancair LC40-550FG, first flew in July 1996 and entered production as the Columbia 300. It was powered by a 310 hp (231 kW) Continental IO-550-N six-cylinder opposed engine. Production of this model ceased in July 2003, coinciding with the introduction of the more optimized Columbia 350 variant, which first flew and was certified in 2002.

In June 2000, the Columbia 400 made its maiden flight. This model represented a development of the Columbia 350, incorporating a turbocharged engine. It possibly boasts the highest flight performance of all piston-engine aircraft registered by the FAA in the first decade of the 21st century. It was equipped with a TSIO-550-C engine and a two-bladed McCauley constant-speed propeller.

Unmatched Performance

In January 2009, the Model 400 version was renamed the Model 400 Corvalis TT, highlighting its twin-turbocharger system. On March 9, at the Sun n’ Fun exhibition in Florida, Cessna, a leading manufacturer of business aviation aircraft, introduced a new member of the single-engine aircraft family: the Corvalis TTX.

Modern Features and the Corvalis TTX

Outwardly indistinguishable from its predecessor, the Cessna 400 Corvalis TT, the new Corvalis TTX aircraft, priced at $678,000, features an updated 4-seat leather interior. Furthermore, it incorporates two 35.5 cm touchscreens on the instrument panel and advanced Garmin G2000 avionics. The original Corvalis TT aircraft were equipped with Garmin G1000 systems and two 10-inch displays.
