Comco Ikarus C42

A Versatile Light Aircraft
The C42 is a light multi-purpose aircraft, manufactured by the German company Comco Ikarus GmbH since 1996. The C42 is highly suitable for initial pilot training, tourism, recreational flights, and glider towing, capable of handling a towing load of up to 650 kilograms.
The Comco Ikarus C42 is a two-seat, high-wing aircraft with fixed landing gear. It can be equipped with either an 80 hp (60 kW) Rotax 912 engine or a 100 hp (75 kW) Rotax 912s engine. Configuration with a four-cylinder Rotax 912ULS engine of the same power is also possible.
Engine Technology and Performance
Optimal engine characteristics and economical fuel consumption are achieved through the use of special NACA air intakes, which provide a battery charging effect. An oil cooling device, integrated into the water cooling system, ensures ideal temperature regulation for both oil and water cylinder heads. Additionally, extra pre-heating prevents carburetor icing.
Robust Design and Ergonomic Cockpit
The primary structure of the Ikarus C42 is metallic, consisting of aluminum tubes, while the composite fuselage skin is non-structural and easily removable for inspection. The wing features two tubular spars and a Kevlar/Mylar/polyester laminate skin. This aluminum tubular construction, combined with carbon fiber, aramid, and fiberglass, ensures exceptional lightness while maintaining high strength, and also makes the aircraft very convenient for maintenance.
The crew in the C42 cockpit is seated “side-by-side,” enjoying a pleasant climate thanks to heating and ventilation. Tall sliding doors reach the cabin floor, allowing for very comfortable entry into the spacious 1.2-meter-wide glass cockpit. The aircraft can also be equipped with a rescue parachute.
Although the aircraft is not equipped with full dual controls, featuring a single central control stick and two sets of pedals, it is actively used for initial flight training. The throttle lever and flap controls are also located on the central console. Since its first flight in 1996, over 1450 units have been built in various modifications, with prices ranging from 42,000 to 62,000 euros.
