Horst Brock

Early Life and Eastern Front Service

Horst Brock was born on September 26, 1922, in Breslau. He completed his initial training at Flieger-Ausbildungs-Regiment 61 and continued at Jagdgruppe Ost. He was sent to the front in March 1943, joining JG 3 on the Eastern Front.

His first victory came on April 15, when he shot down two Soviet fighters over the skies of Kuban. On May 11, he achieved his 10th victory by downing a Yak-1. In mid-May, 5./JG 3 was redeployed to the Belgorod area, where his tally of victories increased to 16.

Rearmament and Western Front Deployment

In early August, the group was withdrawn to Germany for rest and rearmament. Here, the pilots received new Bf 109 G-5 and G-6 aircraft and were subsequently sent to the Netherlands. Their objective was to repel Allied air raids in the region.

Final Mission and Legacy

On November 3, 1944, during a sortie to intercept a large group of bombers, Horst Brock was shot down by escorting Spitfires. His body washed ashore in early 1945. His service spanned crucial theaters of World War II, from the Eastern to the Western Front.
