Plumb BGP-1

In the mid-1970s, British engineer Barry G. Plumb began the development of a small, light aircraft reminiscent of the Pitts Special. The machine was intended for amateur construction.
First Flight and Original Specifications
The first example of the aircraft (G-BGPI), designated as the Plumb BGP-1 (an abbreviation of the designer’s first name and surname initials), only took to the air in 1986. It was a single-seat wooden biplane with a single wing strut, equipped with a four-cylinder Volkswagen 1834cc engine producing 68 hp. In 1998, the engine was replaced with an 80 hp four-stroke Jabiru 2200A.
Further Developments
In 2015, another BGP-1 (G-FUNN) was completed, featuring a Volkswagen 1834cc engine, showcasing the enduring appeal of this design among amateur builders.
