Valentin Modestovich Besklubov

Early Life and Training
Valentin Modestovich Besklubov was born in Feodosia, Ukraine, on April 29, 1923. From 1939 to 1941, while still attending school, Besklubov was a cadet at the Moscow district aeroclub.
He served at the Armavir Military Aviation School for pilots from September 1941 to March 1944. His training prepared him for the challenges he would face on the battlefront.
Military Service and Captivity
From May 1944, Besklubov served on the 3rd Belarusian Front as a junior lieutenant and fighter pilot in the 274th Aviation Regiment of the 278th Fighter Aviation Division. During the Great Patriotic War, he completed 87 combat missions and engaged in 13 aerial battles, accumulating a total of 576 flight hours.
On August 16, 1944, while escorting ground attack aircraft to the Siauliai region, Besklubov’s aircraft was shot down in an aerial battle over enemy-occupied territory. He was severely wounded and subsequently captured by fascist forces.
Besklubov was held as a prisoner of war in the Stalag IIB(315) concentration camp in Hammerstein, East Prussia. The camp’s prisoners were liberated in February 1945 by advancing Soviet troops.
Post-War Career and Contributions
Following his liberation, Besklubov received treatment at a military hospital in Perm, and in September 1945, underwent a month-long check at an NKVD special camp in Ufa. Subsequently, in November 1945, he was sent to a collection point for Red Army Air Force flight and technical personnel in Moscow, where he was ordered to return to his unit, then stationed near Berlin.
In May 1946, along with all those who had been in enemy territory or captivity during the war, he was discharged from the Red Army. For his participation in combat operations, he was awarded the Orders of the Patriotic War 1st and 2nd class.
After demobilization, Besklubov worked as a flight dispatcher at Vnukovo airfield and later as the head of an aircraft modeling club at a district cultural center. For 50 years, from 1950 to 2000, he worked at the M.L. Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant, initially as a model maker, and from 1970, as a lead designer for helicopter mock-ups.
Legacy and Recognition
Valentin Besklubov was awarded two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor. In 1988, he was recognized as an “Honored Designer of the RSFSR.”
Even in retirement, he actively participated in the work of the Great Patriotic War museum at Moscow school No. 299. Valentin Modestovich Besklubov passed away in June 2004, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication.
