YJ-1 Anti-ship Missile
Development and Introduction
The development of the Chinese supersonic short-range anti-ship missile C-101 (Yingji-1 or YJ-1) began in the late 1970s. Production commenced in the mid-1990s. This missile was intended to replace the outdated HY-2 anti-ship missile.
Operational Deployment
The Chinese Navy conducted tests of the anti-ship missile on “Hoku” and “Huang” class missile boats. An aviation variant is utilized on H-5 and H-6 bombers, as well as on the SH-5 amphibious aircraft.
Missile Characteristics
The missile is presumably equipped with a 300-kg semi-armor-piercing warhead. Its cruising altitude is 50 meters above sea level. Approximately three kilometers from the target, the missile performs a pop-up maneuver and then descends to 5 meters.
