The Chevvron is a light multi-purpose aircraft manufactured by the British company AMF Microflight, with Angus Fleming as its chief designer. The first prototype, the Chevvron 2-32, made its maiden flight in late 1983. The numbers in its designation indicate the total number of seats and the engine power in horsepower. This initial modification was followed by the Chevvron 2-32B, which featured an increased take-off weight.
The main production modification of the aircraft became the Chevvron 2-32C. This machine was developed according to the ultralight aircraft standards adopted by the British Civil Aviation Authority in 1988, which stipulated a maximum take-off weight not exceeding 390 kilograms.
Design and Features
The aircraft’s configuration is a mid-wing monoplane with a non-retractable tricycle landing gear. It features a two-seat cockpit with side-by-side seating. The seats are separated by a console where the control joystick is mounted, allowing the aircraft to be piloted from either position.
The fuselage and the structural elements of the wings are made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. To reduce production costs and weight, the surfaces are straight without rounded edges, giving the structure a characteristic ‘chopped’ or ‘angular’ shape. The wings are detachable and covered with a vinyl film.
Assembly and disassembly take approximately 15 minutes. With its wings removed, the aircraft can be transported in a special trailer. It is powered by a Konig SD570 engine, a two-stroke, 4-cylinder radial engine weighing 19 kilograms, with a power output of 32 horsepower. Its fuel consumption is 10 liters per hour of flight.
Variants and Production
In total, approximately 40 units of the aircraft were completed during its serial production. In addition to the 2-32 variants, a single Sea Chevvron 2-48 was also built. This was a floatplane equipped with a König SD930 engine and a 4-blade propeller, making its first flight on August 1, 1987. However, the aircraft did not pass certification, and only test flights with limitations were permitted.
Furthermore, the Super Chevvron 2-45CS, a modernized 2-32C with a two-stroke, 4-cylinder Limbach L 550E engine, also remained a single example. In 1987, the cost of one 2-32C unit was 15,700 British pounds sterling.
