Origins and Design
In 1928, Sam H. Coffman established Coffman Monoplanes Inc. in Oklahoma City. The company’s first project was the Coffman A Monoplane, a lightweight, multi-purpose aircraft. This three-seat, strut-braced high-wing monoplane was equipped with a 90 hp Curtiss OX-5 engine.
The pilot and one passenger were seated side-by-side in the front, with the second passenger positioned behind them.
Production and Variants
That same year, the company constructed five of these aircraft (300V, X569E, NC591M, 812N, 889N). Additionally, one specially modified Monoplane Special (X4171) was built for the 1928 Oklahoma Air Tour competition.
Transition and Legacy
The following year, Coffman sold his company’s assets to Ranger Aircraft Corp., which continued manufacturing the aircraft under the brand name Ranger Cadet. In total, according to various sources, between ten and twenty of these aircraft were built.
