The Development of the Breguet-Richet No. 3
In 1909, Louis Breguet, in collaboration with Professor Charles Richet, constructed their third flying machine, the Breguet-Richet No. 3. This aircraft was a single-seat, single-strut biplane, powered by a 50 hp Renault piston engine.
Challenges and Renaming to Breguet 1
The aircraft, later renamed Breguet 1, did not fly for long before it was involved in an accident. Following repairs and minor modifications, Louis Breguet entered it into the races in Reims, where the machine was assigned tail number 19.
A Premature End
However, the aeroplane crashed on its very first flight at Reims, and Breguet decided not to restore it again. This marked the end of a short and challenging journey for this early aviation pioneer.
