The Che-28 is an experimental four-seater light multi-purpose amphibian aircraft, serving as a transitional model from the Che-27 to the Che-29. It was developed and manufactured by OOO “Hydrosamolet,” with Boris Valentinovich Chernov as the chief designer. Its maiden flight took place on June 24, 2010.
Innovative Design and Features
The Che-28 distinguishes itself from the Che-27 with its all-plastic empennage and wings featuring a GA(W)-1 profile, wingtips, and new outboard floats on titanium struts. This amphibian was built to test and refine the calculations for the Che-29 project, which was under development at the time. The aircraft’s structure is entirely fiberglass, including the wing spars.
The application of the GA(W)-1 wing profile, while maintaining excellent take-off and landing characteristics, provided a noticeable increase in speed. Its cruising speed is 150-160 km/h, with a maximum speed of 210 km/h, achieved with fixed-pitch Kazan propellers. It is also worth noting that the use of a loading mechanism in the roll channel and an electric trim on the elevators has balanced the aircraft such that horizontal flight can be maintained with the roll-pitch control stick practically released.
Operational Capabilities and Performance
This amphibian aircraft is designed to transport four passengers and up to 80 kg of baggage or cargo. The Che-28 features a modern onboard navigation and piloting complex with a satellite GPS system and a contemporary radio station. It is equipped with two 100 hp Rotax-912USL engines, which run on A-95 automotive gasoline, consuming only 28 liters per hour. Furthermore, in the event of an engine failure, the aircraft can continue horizontal flight to the nearest body of water or airfield. Take-off distances are 70 meters on ground and 90 meters from water, and the seaplane’s cabin width is 1250 mm.
Future Prospects and Availability
A modification, the Che-28D, was envisioned with additional fuel tanks to double its flight range. The experimental Che-28 is currently used by OOO “Hydrosamolet” for various tests, aiming to further improve the “Che” brand of light amphibian aircraft. The single built example of the Che-28 is currently listed for sale at a price of 4.1 million rubles.
