Storm Century

Posted on May 9, 2026 By

In the early 1990s, the Italian company Storm Aircraft (formerly SG Aviation srl), based in the city of Sabaudia, began developing a project for a light multi-purpose aircraft. This represented a modernized version of the popular Storm 300 model.

Origin and Development

In 1991, the prototype of the Storm Century made its first flight. It was a two-seater, all-metal, low-wing monoplane with a cantilever design. It was equipped with a four-cylinder Rotax 912ULS engine delivering 100 hp (70 kW).

Landing Gear Options

Depending on customer preference, production aircraft can be supplied with either a nosewheel or a tailwheel landing gear. Initially, the aircraft was produced with fixed landing gear, but a variant with retractable landing gear, the Century RG, later emerged.

Variants and Market Classifications

Following the main production model, improved versions like the Century 04 and Century 5XL were introduced. For the U.S. market, these aircraft are supplied in the Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) class, while for the European market, they fall into the Ultralight (UL) class.
