Zodiac CH 650

Posted on March 9, 2026 By

At the EAA AirVenture exhibition in 2008, among other interesting exhibits, the latest model of the Zodiac family was presented. The CH 650, also known as the Zodiac CH 650, represents the second generation of Zenith light sport aircraft, specifically designed for sport pilots.

Advanced Design and Engine

The main visual differences from the previous version, created in 1984 by Chris Heintz, include larger dimensions and a modern cockpit style. What is not visible to the eye is a new opposed 4-cylinder engine, whose creation incorporated technologies previously unused in light aviation.

The Belgian-made UL350iS delivers 130 horsepower, yet weighs no more than the lightweight Rotax 912S. This direct-drive, air-cooled engine is equipped with a digital FADEC control system, managing multi-point injection, which explains its high performance and efficiency. An option with a less powerful UL260i engine (97 hp) is also available.

Avionics and Ease of Assembly

Zenith Aircraft Company, in conjunction with UL Power North America LLC, has refined the engine compartment with a firewall, which is easily mountable in garage conditions. The dual modern Dynon SkyView glass panel stands out for its convenience and ease of use.

Kit Options and Test Flights

The new 2-seat Zodiac CH 650 and STOL CH 750 models help the company maintain its strong position among leaders in the light aircraft industry. Currently, the production of aircraft assembly kits (using computer technologies) is established in Mexico and Missouri.

The kits are supplied without engines, giving the customer the right to choose the “heart” for their machine independently. These can include Continental O-200, Rotax 912 ULS, Jabiru 3300, or Corvair engines. At any Zodiac workshop, customers can visually familiarize themselves with the assembly process, simplifying their personal task. It is also permitted to perform one or two familiarization flights before purchasing the kit.
