In 1927, the Caudron company built the C.17A2 reconnaissance aircraft. This machine, based on the Descamps-Brunet DB-16 scout, was a two-seater, single-strut sesquiplane, equipped with a 450 hp twelve-cylinder W-shaped Lorraine 12E Courlis engine.
Development and Design
The prototype aircraft (F-AIJV) was demonstrated on October 18, 1927. Following successful trials, six production machines were ordered for the French army aviation.
Operational Service and Armament
The serial C.17A2s were fitted with twin machine guns on a flexible mount in the rear cockpit as defensive armament.
