Caproni Ca.122

In 1934, the Aeronautica Caproni firm independently built the Ca.122 bomber-transport. It was a three-seater low-wing monoplane of mixed construction, equipped with two eighteen-cylinder V-shaped Isotta Franschini Asso XII engines, each rated at 750 hp.

Technical Specifications and Design

The aircraft’s large cargo compartment could be easily converted into a bomb bay. However, no armament was installed on the prototype, making it unique in its initial configuration.

Testing and Repurposing

During testing, it became clear that its flight characteristics did not meet the requirements for a combat aircraft. Therefore, it was decided to use the aircraft as a prototype for the Ca.123 transport, marking a shift in its original purpose.
